The authority for each League operation rests with the Board of Directors, whose members meet together to make decisions. Board members may have specific duties, but each also shares in the responsibility of the entire board for the League’s operation. 

 

The LWVMP board has four elected officers:  President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The League Bylaws prescribe the terms of office for all elected officers and all board members. To ensure continuity, the President-Elect is elected each year at the annual meeting and serves a 2-year term with the first year as the President-Elect and the second year as the President. The Secretary and Treasurer each serve 2-year terms; their elections are staggered.

LWVMP board appoints two directors to the Arizona League Board to represent LWVMP. The LWVAZ board may assign these LWVMP directors to AZ committees. The LWVMP board appoints standing and ad hoc committees, task forces, and community team leaders.

The League’s work is completed by these Board-appointed Committees!

Advocacy Advocacy team members are involved in a range of high profile and behind-the-scenes, nonpartisan activities to educate our members, the public, and policymakers. This also develops public policy briefs that analyze issues and provide detailed information and recommendations for addressing them through specific reforms.

 

Communications The “Comm” team is responsible for the dissemination of information to members through newsletters, website updates, and awareness campaigns to support LWV initiatives.  

 

Events The LWVMP is active with a presence at numerous public events throughout the year. The Events team organizes events focused on local issues such as climate change, voter suppression, and other issues on which the League has taken a position. We also host members and annual meetings.  

 

Finance & Fundraising Our Finance committee provides oversight and review functions that strengthen internal controls over League assets. Moreover, without fundraising, we would not be able to provide voter education and advocacy on issues.

 

Forums & Debates LWVMP holds high-profile public forums throughout the year to educate the community and to empower attendees to make democracy work. In addition to local issues, we partner with the state to host events that address issues with a statewide impact. The issues selected for forums are based on League priorities and positions. 

Membership The Membership team maintains the membership roster and provides an orientation for new members. The League provides members with the opportunity to learn about government, to educate others, and to take action on public policy at the local and state level.

 

Voter Services Voter Services actively reaches out to voters with education materials and registers new voters at public events throughout Metropolitan Phoenix.  The Voter Services team conducts texting or phone banking sessions as needed to get out the vote.
